Staying Fit at 50s


As one ages, it becomes very difficult to stay fit. Nevertheless, fitness should be desired at all ages. When you are at 50 you find it difficult to cope with exercises as the nature conspires against you. This is the age when killer diseases such as high blood pressure and cancer begin coming your way. So what exact steps should you take while at 50s?

Mental fitness
The first thing for you to work on is your mental fitness. If you think like a young start, you will think fit. This will greatly combat the ageing process. However, thinking alone will not solve your problems. You need to observe some measures that will stop your cells from ageing. The cells of your brain are equally important and every effort should be put in place to stop them from aging.

Check on what you eat
Diet will determine how fit you will be. Make fruits, nuts and vegetables part of your diet. Avoid junky, fried and processed foods. Lower the intake of sodas and sweets. Avoid using red meat as much as possible. Instead use white and lean meat. Losing weight is highly dependent on what you eat. For you to lose weight you must eat wholesome. The whole idea of eating wholesome revolves around what you eat rather than the quantity of food you eat. Definitely, you might want not to eat a lot but what is more important is the type of food you eat. For example, you can eat lots of fruits that are beneficial to the body rather than a full plate of junky chips.
The ageing process of your cells can be reduced by intake of foods that are rich in omega-3fatty acids. Add foods such as fish from cold water like the salmons, which are very rich in omega-3. Your risk of having diseases associated with age like arthritis will be greatly reduced by omega-3. It will also keep your arteries clear by unclogging them.

Take plenty of water.
As one age, the ability of the body to retain fluids goes down and therefore water intake should be increased at this age. Also use other good fluids like fresh juices. However, avoid sodas and canned juices as they contain lots of sugar thus high calories. Alcohol should also be avoided as it adds to the body bad fats and has nutritional value to the body.

Do physical exercise
You also need some form of physical exercise. An exercise strategy is important if you are starting a weight loss plan. Calories are well burnt during an exercise. Burning calories makes the body to absorb fewer calories. This is basically what makes a person to slim and look nice. Start exercising slowly and gradually if you have not been practicing. You will enjoy doing exercise but take care that you do not overdo.
An exercise plan is essential when going for exercises. If you don’t have one, you need to find one. There are several ways to locate an exercise plan. Get a fitness magazine. Most of them have good exercise plans that come with pictures. You can as well get online and discover the many exercise plans online. Some of them have instructional materials and come with videos. Remember to always start slowly so that you get used to exercise before going intense.

Finally, remember that at this your body requires adequate rest. Sleep for at least 7 hours in a day. Having said and done, stay happy and positive.
